Chartered Physiotherapists and Women's Health

The role of Chartered Physiotherapy in the treatment of women’s health is well documented in research. At the recent CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapists) conference Susan Frall clinical specialist in women’s health encouraged women to get into the habit of doing daily exercises to strengthen their pelvic floor.

Her key points were:

  • Do pelvic floor exercises daily as they provide protection when you bend, lift, cough, sneeze, push and pull
  • Avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine as this is known to irritate the bladder.
  • Women should be aware of their pelvic floor when moving and handling & avoid doing this if tired.

In keeping with this the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) has just launched new information sheets on the following topics:

  • A Healthy bladder with Physiotherapy
  • Chartered Physiotherapy in Women’s Health and Continence
